For researchers

Data collected by The Midwives Alliance is available to researchers.
We’ve been collecting high-quality, unique, well-validated data from midwives since 2004 via the MANA Stats Web site. We have over 24,000 records in our initial (2004-2009) dataset, plus over 15,000 records completed or in progress in our second dataset (2009-2011). About 800 records are completed monthly via our state-of-the-art Web collection system. This number of high-quality records gives our dataset exciting research power! Our 2004-2009 data features a depth of practice information seldom seen in birth-related datasets.

We encourage qualified researchers to apply!  The Division of Research is also accepting applications for prospective studies that include additional fields not currently collected, via customized question modules (which appear along with our standard data-collection instruments). The Midwives Alliance Division of Research advocates for Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). CBPR is a collaborative approach in which research takes place in community settings and involves community members in the design and implementation of research projects. Such activities demonstrate respect for the contributions made by community partners and for the principle of “doing no harm” to the communities involved.  Learn more about Community-Based Participatory Research here.
