The majority of DOR projects are in support of ongoing development and oversight of all aspects of the MANA Statistics Registry.
The Midwifery Data Collective. The Midwives Alliance DOR is working with the American Association of Birth Centers (AABC) and the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) to formulate a shared list of data collection variables so that researchers will be able to compare certain core midwifery data across practice sites, including home, birth centers and hospitals.
Annual benchmarking. The DOR received a grant from the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery to investigate the feasibility of and processes required to publish annual benchmarking statistics from the MANA Stats dataset (going beyond the current biannual release to MANA members).
Expansion of dissemination capacity. The DOR has previously released benchmarking statistics exclusively to members. It is currently expanding its internal capacity to support midwives in their data-collection and verification processes, partner with external researchers, and investigate peer-reviewed journals for publishing benchmarking statistics
Public information about the MANA Stats datasets. Members of the DOR prepare papers that describe the overall characteristics of data, clients, and contributing midwives in the MANA Stats database and explain our high-quality, standardized methods of data collection and review.
Educating midwives about research. A long-term goal of the DOR is helping midwives to become more fluent in understanding research and applying it to their midwifery practices.
