The new Michigan Board of Licensed Midwifery held its very first meeting in late June in the state capitol Lansing. The board includes MANA board member Nicole White, CPM and Past MANA President/Executive Director Geradine Simkins.

Help shape the future of MANA: Volunteers Needed for the Elections Committee

Members of the Election & Nomination Committee are primarily responsible for locating candidates for open positions on the Board of Directors. An active and diverse committee will help ensure a wider candidate pool and create a more diverse MANA Board. Committee members also assist the Chairperson to remind candidates to turn in their information on time, and check references and other items as needed.
Consumers now have a new resource to help them learn about recent research on risk factors and community (home and birth center) birth. Jeanette McCulloch interviewed Missy Cheyney, PhD, CPM, in this recent blog post at MomsRising.org.

MANA President Vicki Hedley to Speak at Association of Texas Midwives Conference

MANA President Vicki Hedley, CPM, CM will speak at the Association of Texas Midwives Conference on Tuesday, May 2nd at 2:00pm. The annual conference is being held at Camp Allen in Navasota, TX. Vicki will present an update on MANA. More information about the conference can be found here.
Last week, the South Dakota House of Representatives passed legislation designed to create a licensure board for Certified Professional Midwives. The bill comes after 25 years of efforts on the part of South Dakota home birth advocates, including South Dakota Birth Matters.
